Pentax X70 review
The X70 is the ideal bridge between compact and DSLR technology, offering
SLR performance in a compact body. Featuring a 12.0 megapixel CCD and a
high-magnification 24X optical zoom lens with wide-angle to super-telephoto
coverage, the X70 performs superbly and effortlessly in a variety of
photographic situations — from casual day-to-day snapshots to travel to
sweeping landscapes and sports photography.
Thanks to the combination of a 12.0 megapixel CCD, a high-performance
imaging engine, and high-quality PENTAX zoom lens, the X70 delivers clear,
detailed images.
The versatile 24X optical zoom offers focal length coverage between 26mm
wide angle to 624mm super telephoto (in the 35mm format). Coupled with the
Intelligent Zoom function, the X70’s zoom range can be extended to
approximately 150 times (for a focal length of an astonishing approx.
3900mm in the 35mm format). Whatever your need – landscapes, group shots,
wildlife, sports, and more – this camera’s got you covered.
The X70 boasts three Shake Reduction technologies to reduce camera shake
and blurring of the subject: Mechanical Shake Reduction via a CCD shift
mechanism (offering a camera-shake compensation effect equivalent to
approximately three shutter speeds), Digital Shake Reduction via high ISO,
and Movie Shake Reduction for blur-free video capture.
With high-speed continuous shooting at 11 FPS, the X70 makes sure you get
the winning shot.
HD movie capture vividly captures moving memories in widescreen 720p (15
FPS) as well as full speed 848x480, VGA, and QVGA resolutions.
The X70 offers a choice of four exposure modes. In Programmed AE, the
camera automatically selects the optimal combination of aperture and
shutter speed for a given subject. With the Aperture-Priority AE,
Shutter-Priority AE and Metered Manual modes, you are free to select either
or both aperture and shutter speed to express your creative intentions and
personal touches.
The X70 features the advanced Auto Picture mode which automatically selects
the most appropriate shooting mode for a given subject or scene by
detecting the subject’s lighting and other conditions.
With PENTAX’s face detection technology, the camera quickly and
automatically sees up to 32 faces in 0.03 seconds, so portraits and group
shots are bright and focused, even in backlit situations. Smile Capture
automatically releases the shutter the instant it detects the subject’s
smile while Blink Detection warns the photographer when the subject’s
eyes were closed when the picture was taken.
The large, bright 2.7 inch LCD screen lets you easily compose, capture, and
review your images and video with great clarity. You can also use the
built-in electronic viewfinder to frame and shoot, so you know you’ll be
able to get the shot in any lighting situation.
Close focusing, Super Macro mode brings out the details in even the
smallest subjects as close as 1 cm from the lens
Digital Wide function allows you to create one extra-wide-angle image
(equivalent to an image taken with an approx. 20mm lens in 35mm format)
from two images
Use the Frame Composite function (with 90 frames stored in the camera) to
add decorative frames to pictures while shooting or to add them to pictures
you have already taken
Approx. 33.6MB built-in memory
