Pentax Optio WS80 review
Designed for those who seek adventure indoors and out, the Optio WS80 can
be taken from sea to sand to formal settings with ease. It features 10
megapixel resolution, a powerful 5X internal optical zoom, HD movie capture
and a 2.7 inch LCD, all packed into a fashionable and functional
waterproof-rated body that allows for up to two hours of continuous
underwater photography at a depth down to 1.5m.
The Optio WS80’s waterproof and dustproof construction can withstand
depths up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) protecting against rain, snow, sand and
allowing full underwater photos and video. The PENTAX-exclusive SP (Super
Protect) coating adds superior water repellency to the front protective
glass of the lens to prevent water droplets from forming and blurring the
picture.
The 5X optical zoom lens covers focal lengths from 35mm to 175mm in the
35mm format. The Intelligent Zoom function extends the zoom range up to
approximately 28.5 times for even tighter zooming in on the subject.
Combining approximately 10.0 effective megapixels with the PENTAX-developed
imaging engine and high-performance PENTAX zoom lens, the Optio WS80 allows
you to produce brilliant, high-resolution prints with edge-to-edge
sharpness, even when images are enlarged to larger sizes.
Triple anti-shake protection to prevent different types of camera shake
The advanced Fast Face Detection technology sees up to 32 faces in as
little as 0.03 seconds for easy portrait photography. Smile Capture
automatically recognizes smiles and takes the picture when a smile is
detected while Blinking Detection warns you if the subject blinked at the
moment the shot was taken.
The Optio WS80 can capture high resolution, widescreen, HD video up to 720p
at a full-speed 30 frames per second. It also comes equipped with advanced,
user-friendly features designed to facilitate movie recording - the Movie
SR (Shake Reduction) mode, which automatically compensates camera shake
during movie shooting and the Underwater Movie mode, which automatically
optimizes all camera settings for underwater movie shooting.
The large 2.7 inch high-brightness colour LCD monitor allows you to view
on-screen images and menus with ease and facilitates mode setting and other
camera operations during both shooting and playback.
Auto Picture mode automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode
for a given subject or scene (from Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, Night
Scene Portrait, Flower, Sport, Standard and Candlelight modes) by detecting
the subject’s lighting and other conditions.
A variety of digital filters, including Toy Camera and Retro are available
to add distinctive visual effects to recorded images.
New D-Range setting improves images by adjusting both the highlight and
shadow areas of the picture for optimum image quality.
Digital wide function merges two shots into one image for ultra-wide-angle
expressions equivalent to a focal length of approx. 25.4mm in 35mm format,
ideal for use by realtors on the MLS system.
Frame composite function (with 90 frames stored in the camera) allows to
shoot pictures with decorative photo frames.
The image recovery function allows you to recover accidentally erased
images.
ACDSee for PENTAX 3.0 image viewing, editing and filing software
(compatible with Windows VistaTM) and ACDSee 2.0 for Mac image
viewing/managing software are both included.
