Pentax Optio W90 review
The rugged Optio W90 offers enhanced waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and
coldproof performance and has a number of advanced, user-friendly features
including a 12.1 megapixel high resolution CCD sensor, internal 5X optical
zoom lens, large 2.7 inch LCD and HDTV-proportioned movie recording. An
inventive Digital Microscope mode with LED lighting perfectly captures even
the smallest and closest macro subjects as near as 1cm from the camera.

The Optio W90 is the perfect choice for active photographers who shoot
pictures in demanding conditions. It can be used underwater continuously
for up to 2 hours at a depth of up to 6m. Its remarkable dustproof
performance protects against sand, mud and dust. The design protects it
against drops of 1.2m, ensuring that the camera is protected from use in
harsh shooting conditions as well as occasional “spills” on dry land
and has exceptional coldproof performance for reliable operation at
temperatures as low as –10°C.
Combining a macro shooting capability from as close as 1cm away with the
Digital Zoom function and with its 3 LED Macro Lighting, the Digital
Microscope mode delivers magnified sharp pictures of even the smallest
subjects, like insects, or the veins of a leaf.
Combining a 12.1 megapixel sensor with the PENTAX-developed imaging engine
and high performance zoom lens, the Optio W90 delivers high-quality images
with sharp details and faithful colour reproduction.
5X wide angle internal optical zoom lens, covering an angle of view
equivalent to approximately 28 to 140 mm in 35 mm format is ideal for
shooting a broad spectrum of subjects, from landscapes to indoor, portrait
or group photos.
The large 2.7 inch, 230,000 dot LCD screen with anti-reflective coating
features a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, giving a cinematic feel to video
or still image capture.
Three different SR (Shake Reduction) modes minimize the adverse effects of
camera shake and subject shake in both still images and movie clips: Pixel
Track SR mode effectively compensates for camera shake during still-image
shooting digitally without increasing image noise, High-Sensitivity SR mode
automatically raises the sensitivity up to ISO 6400 under poor-lighting
conditions and the Movie SR mode prevents blurry images by effectively
minimizing camera shake through the use of exclusive software.
Capture beautiful, flawless movie clips at 16:9 high-definition TV
proportions (1280 x 720 pixels) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second and
offers a variety of editing functions. The Optio W90 also has an HDMI micro
terminal for audio/video signal output.
The new-generation Face Detection AF & AE function detects up to 32
faces in the image field, then catches them in sharp focus and in optimum
exposure in as little as 0.03 seconds. In addition to popular features such
as the innovative Small Face filter, Smile Capture and Blink Detection, the
OptioW90 can detect not only human faces, but also the faces of dogs and
cats thanks to the Pet Detection function.
PENTAX Auto Picture mode takes the guesswork out of photography by
analyzing the scene and setting the best corresponding shooting mode.
Capture images remotely with infrared remote control capabilities (using
optional PENTAX remote controller).
Includes a woven web fabric strap complete with a carabiner to attach the
camera to a backpack and other outdoor gear.
Eye-Fi connected: optimized for use with Eye-Fi wireless memory cards.
Media Impression 2.0 for PENTAX image viewing, editing and filing software
included (compatible with Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 operating systems)
