Pentax Optio WG-2 review
With rugged waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, coldproof and dustproof
construction, the Optio WG-2 is the perfect companion for capturing images
or Full HD video in almost any environment. Equipped with a 16 MP backlit
CMOS image sensor, state-of-the-art imaging engine, wide angle internal
optical zoom lens, large high-resolution LCD monitor and inventive Digital
Microscope mode with LED lens lighting. Colour Choices:
The 16.0 effective megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor delivers
super-high-resolution images. The new imaging engine applies the latest
super-resolution technology to its image processing operations to assure
sharp, clear, high-resolution images.
The Optio WG-2 is the perfect choice for active photographers who shoot
pictures in demanding conditions. It can be used underwater continuously
for up to 2 hours at a depth of up to 12m. Its crushproof construction can
withstand weights up to 100 KGF (kilogram-force) and shockproof design
protects it against drops of 1.5m. It also offers remarkable dustproof
performance to protect the camera from dry, dusty environments and
exceptional cold-resistant performance for reliable operation at
temperatures as low as –10°C
Capture beautiful, flawless movie clips in Full HD 1080p video at 30 FPS
with high quality h.264 compression. Includes a high-speed camera function*
for slow-motion playback of captured movie clips and an interval movie
function to simplify advanced movie-recording techniques. The Optio WG-2
also has a micro-HDMI micro terminal for output of Full HD movie clips and
sound to external devices. * When this function is selected, the recorded
size is fixed at VGA (640 x 480 pixels).
5X wide angle internal optical zoom lens, covering an angle of view
equivalent to approximately 28 to 140 mm in 35 mm format is ideal for
shooting a broad spectrum of subjects, from landscapes to indoor, portrait
or group photos.
Combining a macro shooting capability from as close as 1cm away with its 6
LED Macro Lighting and unique Macro Stand, the Digital Microscope mode
delivers magnified sharp pictures of even the smallest subjects, like
insects, or the veins of a leaf.
The Large 3-inch LCD features HVGA resolution (460,000 dots) and a 16:9
widescreen aspect ratio. A special AR (Anti-Reflection) coating cuts the
glare of external light and minimizes reflections, making it easy to
observe the subject, monitor recorded images and view on-screen menus, even
in bright sunlight.
Triple anti-shake protection to prevent different types of camera shake:
Pixel Track SR mode effectively compensates for camera shake during
still-image shooting digitally without increasing image noise, Digital SR
mode automatically raises the sensitivity up to ISO 6400 under
poor-lighting conditions and the Movie SR mode prevents blurry images by
effectively minimizing camera shake through the use of exclusive software.
The Face Detection function detects up to 32 faces- even the faces of dogs
and cats- in the image field, then catches them in sharp focus and in
optimum exposure in as little as 0.03 seconds. The Self-portrait Assist
function uses the blink of the LED lights to confirm whether the
subject’s face is safely captured within the picture frame.
Auto Picture mode automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode
from 16 different scene modes.
Digital Wide mode composes an extra-wide-angle picture (equivalent to
approx. 21mm wide angle in the 35mm format) from two separate images.
Capture images remotely with infrared remote control capabilities (using
optional PENTAX remote controller).
Includes a woven web fabric strap complete with a carabiner to attach the
camera to a backpack and other outdoor gear.
MediaImpression 3.5 for PENTAX (Windows version) and MediaImpression 2.1
for PENTAX (Macintosh version) image viewing, editing and filing software
included (compatible with latest operation systems, Windows 7 and Mac OS X
10.7)
