A good twenty years ago, the first BMW M5 followed where the BMW M1, had left off and became the trailblazer for a class of high-performance sedans with real-world usability. The new, forth-generation M5 takes the trademark M characteristics to a whole new level of perfection. Like never before, it manages to blur the boundaries between the sports car experience and a suburb day-to-day ride. Ten cylinders, five litres capacity and 507 bhp combined with the understatement of an elegant and uncompromisingly dynamic luxury saloon. The BMW M5 is a high-tech sports car dressed up as a unique business sedan.
The BMW M5 is the first series-produced sedan in the world to feature a naturally aspirated high-revving V10 engine. With much of the knowledge gained from BMW's participation with Formula 1, directly influencing many of the engine electronics and other technologies throughout the car. The seven-speed SMG no exception, as fitted in the BMW M5, represents another world-first. Add to this the fact that the BMW M5, thanks to its amazingly lightweight design, has an incredible power to weight ratio of 1 bhp for every 3.5kg*.
The performance data more than anything underlines the sports car personality of the BMW M5. But the BMW M5 has a lot more to offer. It is also an elegant, practical sedan with exclusive interior equipment, and leaves no wishes unfulfilled in terms of spaciousness, functionality, comfort and user-friendliness.
The BMW M5 allows the driver to choose an optimum set-up for any driving situation - from a comfortable ride to a very sporty, stiff suspension. Even different levels of engine performance can be selected at the push of a button, depending on what is most suitable in any given situation.
