2005-2012 BMW 3 Series Convertible review
The perfect link between sky and road. The design of a car is about much more than just applied geometry. The outer shape reflects its character, the promise of an extraordinary driving experience. The new BMW 3 Series Convertible immediately captures the imagination. From the long bonnet via the flat, elongated shoulder line to the low rear, its sporty proportions are testament to the inherent lightness of its design. Thanks to the retractable hardtop, the C-pillar ends in a classic angle and displays, for the first time in a BMW Convertible, the trademark Hofmeister kink. The aerials are invisible from the outside. The steeply angled windscreen offers sufficient headroom with the hardtop on. And when driving with the top down, the short A-pillar ensures that driver and front passenger enjoy a particularly intense open-air experience. Sit back and relax. The sporty, low seating position will take you a little bit closer to the source of all driving enjoyment – the road. To ensure that you can enjoy this feeling to the full, our ergonomically shaped seats provide a pleasant level of support. The flowing centre console stretches all the way to the rear backrest, turning this convertible into a classic four-seater with a generous amount of space and additional storage areas in the rear. The creative storage solutions include fold-out map pockets and numerous integrated oddments compartments. The automatic opening and closing of the innovative retractable hardtop offers a special kind of open-air festival. The handy comfort loading and unloading function can “freeze” the hardtop in an intermediate position if desired. This is a great help when you need to access the boot to stow or remove larger luggage items while the top is down. When closed, the three-part hardtop perfectly complements the car’s sporty, elegant design language. And the large, heated rear window provides excellent visibility when you decide to “cover up”. In the new BMW 3 Series Convertible, elegant design, high-quality equipment and innovative technology form a perfect partnership. And to make sure you really enjoy sitting in the driver’s seat, we have supplied many components that contribute to the unique handling of your car. For example the responsive steering, which makes the car particularly agile on twisting roads. Or the optional, speed-dependent Active Steering. This adjusts the steering ratio and power steering assistance as a function of road speed. At low and medium speeds, two turns are enough to go from lock to lock; at high speeds, however, the steering wheel needs to be turned further to achieve the same effect. The result – more comfortable manoeuvring when parking, and enhanced safety on the highway, thanks to improved directional stability. The comprehensive range of high-tech equipment also includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). This detects any incipient tendency towards understeer or oversteer and corrects it, intervening in the vehicle’s engine management or brake system as required, reducing engine output or braking individual wheels to restore control. So you can concentrate fully on enjoying your drive in the BMW 3 Series Convertible. Huge torque. The new BMW 335i Convertible. The most exciting thing about this six-cylinder in-line engine with High Precision Injection and Twin Turbo is its power – and how this power is delivered. Two parallel turbochargers quickly build up pressure and offer a huge 400 Nm of torque from as little as 1,300 rpm. The highly refined engine then revs spontaneously and smoothly up to 7,000 rpm. High Precision Injection and Double-VANOS ensure that the car’s three-litre capacity is efficiently converted into a maximum power output of 225 kW (306 hp). The result is acceleration at sports-car level: from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Great acceleration. The new BMW 325i Convertible. This refined six-cylinder in-line engine delivers 160 kW (218 hp). A lightweight aluminium and magnesium high-performance powerplant with Double-VANOS, it enables an ideal torque curve across the entire rev range. Particularly impressive: its 0 to 100 km/h time of just 7.8 seconds, and a top speed of 242 km/h. At the same time, Valvetronic, the intelligent valve control system, ensures that the BMW 325i delivers superb fuel efficiency. Model Range:
