1998-2005 SsangYong Korando review
The SsangYong Korando was designed for serious fun both on and off the road. Its size, perfomance, proven reliability and economy offer great appeal. The Mercedes Benz licensed turbo diesel provides a technical advantage in power, torque, amazing economy (going over 700kms per tank), smoothness, quietness and reliability. The Korando has an immense towing capacity of 2.8 tonnes. A highly refined Mercedes licensed engine and chassis package delivers a car like ride with outstanding silkiness and amazing four wheel drive ability.
The Ssangyong Korando's four wheel drive system is part time, giving the ability to select two wheel drive high range. This gives drive to only the rear wheels resulting in less power loss from mechanical drag and better fuel economy. The four wheel drive high range can be selected whilst driving up to 70kph at the turn of a switch. Low range allows slow manoeuvres over rough terrain, safe ascending and engine brake controlled descending.
The high quality chassis construction, independent front suspension, limited slip rear diff driving both rear wheels and engine power. It is the only vehicle in its class with 10 link coil spring rear suspension and rear disc brakes.
The premium safety features include integrated front and rear crumple zones isolating the cabin from impact, driver's air bag, the already excellent stopping ability improved with optional ABS, collapsible steering column and steel intrusion bars in the doors. The comfort features are electric windows, power steering, electric mirrors, central locking, rear passenger entry assist, superior rear passenger room, split fold rear seat back & fold away rear seat base.
