2005-2012 Mazda MX-5 review
"Jinba Ittai" - Rider and Horse as one.
The addition of the Roadster Coupe into the MX-5 range provides a unique combination of attributes, from the thrill of driving an open-top sports car, with the added security of a hard top. The Roadster Coupes first ever powered retractable hard-top, which does not sacrifice any boot space, goes from closed to open in 12 seconds.
The addition of DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) as standard equipment on both the Soft-top and Roadster Coupe along with the MX-5’s renowned chassis balance and nimble handling, all come together to create the ultimate Zoom-Zoom experience.
While most sports cars aim for specific, unemotional performance targets-such as the time required to accelerate to 100km/h or the cornering-G provided by the chassis-Mazda engineers established wholly different goals to reinvigorate the lightweight sports car.
The all new MX-5 combines the feeling of balance and harmony to create the ultimate Zoom-Zoom.
A spirited engine and a wieldy transmission constitute the heart of any sports car.A new MZR 2.0-litre engine powers the all-new MX-5. This light and compact design features chain-driven double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable intake valve timing and electronically controlled port fuel injection. With this sporty new engine, output reaches 118kW at 6,700 rpm with peak torque around 188Nm at 5,000 rpm.Sports car enthusiasts will also reap a special pleasure from a new six-speed manual transmission, changing gears by a quick flick of the wrist. The new MX-5's combination of low effort and short travel will establish a benchmark for all sports cars to aspire to.
