2000-2004 Alfa Romeo 166 review
Exhibiting all the prestige and panache of its illustrious forbears, the Alfa 166 has recently seen subtle, yet significant enhancements to its styling and interior. Supreme in its ability to connect the driver with the road whilst cosseting all on board in the lap of luxury, the Alfa 166 is today’s definitive executive sports saloon.
With the styling of the Alfa 166, Alfa Romeo’s designers have achieved the seemingly impossible – a car that conveys not only the size and grandeur demanded of a first class executive saloon, but also the sporting flair of a high performance coup?.
The 3.0L 24v V6 engine is quite definitely designed for performance. The engine turns smoothly at any speed. It is powerful and decisive - six cylinders in a 60° V with the cylinder heads and crankcase made entirely of light alloy. Acceleration is controlled entirely by the engine control unit (ECU) to ensure the most effective power delivery at all times. The timing system includes twin camshafts for each cylinder head with four valves per cylinder controlled directly via hydraulic tappets.
