Pentax Optio M40 review
The affordable, ultra-slim Optio M40 offers fun, easy digital photography
to many different users, regardless of photographic skill and experience.
Loaded with outstanding image quality thanks to a 8.0 megapixel CCD and a
3X optical smc PENTAX lens, this camera is ideal for photographing a broad
spectrum of subjects from landscapes, through sightseeing photographs, to
portraits. It also features Digital Shake Reduction, Face Recognition AF
and AE, and an Auto-Macro function. The Optio M40 captures smooth,
high-quality movies at 30 fps at a resolution of 640x480 pixels, which is
comparable to movies taken with a camcorder.

By selecting the “Digital SR (Shake Reduction)” mode during
photography, the Optio M40 automatically adjusts the sensitivity to as high
as ISO 3200 to match the brightness of the subject. Even in dark locations
such as indoors and night scenes, it effectively reduces camera shake and
subject blurring that occurs when the subject moves, through fast shutter
speeds
The Auto Macro feature allows the Optio M40 to automatically switch to the
macro focusing mode which captures subjects down to 4 inches (10 cm)
Face Recognition AF & AE function
Auto Picture mode automatically determines the best settings for the
shooting conditions. This PENTAX original function makes photography a lot
easier for users as it eliminates the necessity of making a number of
individual settings
Specific scenes and subjects can be photographed using one of the 16
different photography modes including the new “Natural Skin Tone”,
“Flower”, “Sport”, “Pet”, and “Food”. Optimum exposure,
white balance, etc., are set depending on the scene or subject. Selection
of the mode is very simple thanks to the unique “Mode Palette” icon
displayed on the LCD monitor.
The Optio M40 is equipped with powerful flash photography performance that
allows subjects in dark locations to be captured brightly and clearly at a
distance of up to approximately 15.5m, thanks to a flash that uses a large
amount of light and the ultra-sensitivity of “Digital SR”. It also
comes with a “Soft Flash” function that prevents overexposure of
people’s skin when photographing at close distances, by controlling the
amount of light emitted.
Movie SR (Shake Reduction) function automatically corrects camera shakes,
allowing for movies to be taken more easily and without hassles.
Easy to View 2.5-inch LCD Monitor with auto dimmer function that
automatically dims the backlight to optimize the checking of the screen,
both indoors and outdoors.
Auto-tracking AF continuously focuses on a moving subject
