2005-2009 Ferrari F430 Spider review
The latest in Ferrari's long line of V8-engined sporting roadsters, the F430 Spider offers a unique combination of extreme performance and open-air motoring. Equipped with the same competition-inspired 4.3-litre flat crank power unit as the F430 coup?, the Spider provides a true 310 km/h top speed along with formidable acceleration, covering the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds.F1-derived aerodynamics pay considerable dividends in achieving these performance figures. The track, in fact, continues to be Ferrari's favoured test bed for research and development, and the Spider's sinuous lines have been honed to reduce drag while generating no less than 260kg of downforce at 300 km/h.Significant improvements have also been wrought in the chassis department, with an increase of 10 percent in torsional rigidity and 5 percent in beam strength over the 360 Spider. Handling and roadholding are consequently to the highest standard, while the innovative electronic differential and F1 transmission help transfer the V8's 360.3kW (490 bhp) to the road.
