2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class review
Since the legendary 300 SL was launched in 1954, the SL has been acknowledged as one of the most imposing cars in the world. At Merecedes-Benz those two letters stand for elegance, sporty driving and innovative technology. The new generation of the SL has also followed in this tradition. The Roadster combines sporting exhilaration and the greatest possible comfort with the excitement of open-top driving under the open skies par excellence.
And in terms of its technology, too, the all new SL Roadster plays in a league all of its own. A wealth of assistance and convenience systems renders driving safer and in particular more comfortable.
The neck-level heating function cossets the driver and passenger by gently supplying warm air to the nape and front of the neck/head like a warm scarf. The electric draught-stop provides for the best possible freedom from draughts by simply pressing a button on the centre console. The draught-stop consists of a finely-woven textile fabric and when retracted it is integrated completely out of sight in the rear compartment trim.
Well protected and with a free view of the sky. The vario-roof is the perfect complement to the outstanding performance of the all new SL Roadster. It disappears into the rear of the car in less than 20 seconds. Even when the roof is down, the boot capacity is still an impressive 235 litres. With the roof up, you can carry up to 356 litres of luggage.
The interior of the all new SL Roadster is as quiet and comfortable as that of a coup?. Noise, wind and weather are kept outside the vehicle.
The optional panoramic vario-roof (standard on SL 65 AMG) offers a breathtakingly real roadster feeling. It includes a large glass element and a roller sunblind and makes the interior even lighter and more appealing. Now you can combine a roadster feeling with the comfort of a closed vehicle. The likewise optionally available panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL is another of the innovations in the new SL. The roof changes colour at the touch of a button from dark to transparent and vice-versa in a matter of seconds. This way you can enjoy the view offered by a roadster and the comfort afforded by a closed vehicle at the same time.
