Most carmakers seem to think the formula for a family sedan is pretty simple. You put six cylinders up front and five seats behind it. Which is all very practical if not just a bit… well… boring. So we thought we’d take the formula a little further.
We added refinement, road holding and responsiveness. Not forgetting excellent build quality, safety levels and styling. And a list of standard features unmatched in its class. The result was the Kia Optima. A sedan designed to please you and your family and to redefine the phrase ‘value for money’.
If only your kids responded as eagerly to your every command as the new Optima. Put your foot down and its superb 2.7 litre V6 will have you hitting 100km/h in just 9.5 seconds. Which doesn’t leave a lot of time to choose between the convenience of automatic or the fun of clutch-less manual driving thanks to the Tiptronic-style transmission. Handling is also excellent and is further complemented by Kia’s innovative Traction Control System. In simple terms, this system monitors the individual drive wheels to help you maintain optimum traction at all times.
Take a look at the Optima and you could be forgiven for thinking that it gets its name from the ‘optimal’ number of features you could possibly fit in a family sedan. There’s speed-sensitive power steering, power windows and mirrors for starters. Then of course, there’s the alloy wheels, air conditioning and central locking with remote keyless entry. Not forgetting leather trim and wood grain inlays. There’s also dual airbags and the state-of-the-art Traction Control System. And if the kids ever get too noisy you can always drown them out with the 180W, six speaker CD sound system.
